Packing / Handling Facts: Packing operations vary widely. Some packing is done in the field, while others have actual packing facilities. In nearly all packing operations, some form of mechanized equipment is used. Conveyor-belts are common, providing an opportunity to manually check produce as it is packaged.

Major components:

  • Grading, sorting, bunching and packing produce into containers.
  • Loading filled vegetable containers onto trucks.
  • Forklifts, trucks, and other powered machinery are common, increasing the risk of traumatic injury.
